He's Been Called Home
Ronald Reagan would want us all to be happy for him now because he has been "called home" by the Lord to "another place-the better place we've all been promised" -heaven. He saw death as a passage or a homecoming. Reagan understood that his life on earth was just a temporary journey and heaven is his ultimate home. When he was only seventeen years old he wrote a poem entitled "Life". The poem serves as a reminder to Christians that we are here on earth for a brief time, but are promised eternal life in heaven. It urges us to keep things in perspective and not complain about small problems." Some of his own words in the poem now act to comfort and help us mourning his passing away from this world.
"But why does sorrow drench us
When your fellow passes on?
He's just exchanged life's dreary dirge
For an eternal life of song..." John 3:16 was President Reagan's favorite Bible verse, and it is from this his confidence came that one day he would have eternal life in heaven. When asked what this verse means to him personally, he responded , saying, "It means that having accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, I have God's promise of eternal life, as well as the abundant life here on earth that he promises to each of us in John 10:10"
He believed God had a plan and purpose for his life, as well as everyone's life. This belief gave his life meaning. On a daily basis he lived trying to do God's will and felt called by God to run for president. He did not run for the power or prestige, he ran because he believed God had things for him to do. Believing that his life was saved by divine intervention after the nearly fatal attempt on his life, he wrote, "Whatever happens now I owe my life to God and will try to serve him in every way I can."
Ronald Wilson Reagan was a faithful servant and answered God's call, fulfilled his mission on earth, and changed the world. Now he's home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
