As a 30-year civil servant working at Kennedy Space Center for NASA, I only know what comfort President Reagan was to me during thedays and weeks following the Challenger accident. On that very coldday, I stood with Christa McAuliffe's parents as a NASA employee serving as a VIP escort. When the accident occurred, there was such a silencethat fell over the viewing site and there were no words to offer thefamily. However, President Reagan was able to comfort a whole agency of bewildered employees and an entire nation with the words of his speech.He was truly inspirational for so many - young and old, conservativesand liberals alike.
